Windwerk Artists was created in 1997 as a collective of organists committed to the highest standards of performance and scholarship. The name ‘Windwerk’ evokes the rich history of northern European pipe organ building, where the ‘Wind’ gives the instrument its human breathing quality and ‘Werk’ refers to a division of pipes, often within a large instrument with three or four separate ‘Werke,’ each playable from a separate manual or pedal keyboard. Rooted in a deep knowledge of the gamut of the repertoire, our experience with historic instruments empowers us to invite diverse voices to the organ to expand and seek out innovative ways to promote the organ.
